FILM SHOWING: Katips

“KATIPS” follows the story of Greg (Jerome Ponce), a medical student and the leader of the National Union of Students in the Philippines (NUSP), along with other freedom-fighting groups, who stood their ground and began a vigil.

Despite the blood and gore, the burning desire for freedom grew within the hearts of those who were brutally subjugated.

The film was shot using various styles. Since it’s a musical, this is incomparable to any other historical musicals that have ever been done in the country so far using pseudo-realistic techniques and metaphors.

KATIPS is the first musical film to win the best picture in the 70th history of FAMAS.

The film earned 17 nominations at the 70th Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) Awards and took home the awards for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Tañada, Best Cinematography for Manuel Abanto, and Best Original Song.

Written and directed by Palanca, Aliw and FAMAS Awardee Vince Tañada, it stars Jerome Ponce, Nicole Laurel, Adelle Ibarrientos, Johnrey Rivas, Joshua Bulot, Vean Olmedo, Dexter Doria, Lou Veloso, OJ Arci, Dindo Arroyo, Afi Africa, Patricia Ismael, Chris Lin and Mon Confiado to name a few.
