BALIK-TANAW: Martial Law at 50

This free whole-day event will feature a guided virtual tour of martial law exhibit, a film showing (the SHOWTIME® documentary The Kingmaker), and a cultural night.

The Philippine-Manitoba Historical Society, Inc. (PMHSI) proudly presents “Balik-Tanaw: Martial Law at 50” (Looking Back: Martial Law at 50) – a special event commemorating the 50th anniversary of the declaration of martial law in the Philippines.

Please join us on Friday, September 23, 2022 at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) at 85 Israel Asper Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Our Martial Law Exhibit opens to the general public from 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM. The special guided tour will be available at 10:00 AM.

The award-winning film THE KINGMAKER will be shown at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM respectively, followed by an open forum with Marichu Antonio, a martial law victim and survivor.

Ms. Antonio was the recipient of the 2020 Calgary’s Citizen of the Year Award as well as the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2017.

This momentous event concludes with a cultural celebration at 7:00 PM, featuring some of Winnipeg’s greatest Filipino-Canadian artists such as Alex Canlapan, Jovelle Balani, Mervin Sison, Hazel Wallace, Jett Panganiban, Paolo Camus, the Missing Page, Mar dela Cruz and the Alapaap.

I hope you are able to join us for a day of learning, music, food, fun and camaraderie!
